Croatian driver Martin Kodric picked up crucial points at Spa-Francorchamps to stay in the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Europe title hunt this weekend (29-30 July).

The Team Bonaldi Motorsport racer finished fifth and sixth to just miss out on a podium in both races.   The 19-year-old made up seven places in the first race and was unlucky in the second - despite a record 50 Huracán LP 620-2s on the track making life difficult for all.   But the ADD Motorsport-supported star did enough to cement third place in the overall standings, pulling away from the chasing pack and closing in on second.

He said: “I came away with some crucial points this weekend, but was disappointed with my own performance.   “My competitors didn’t have great weekends, so I could have really gained some ground. My pace was really good in the second race and I made up seven places in the first, which was a great effort in the end.   “Now it’s about focusing on the next race and hopefully I can come back much stronger.”

The amount of traffic made qualifying difficult and getting even a quarter of a lap in was key to a good time. Martin managed to finish 13th in the first – overtaking six cars along the way.

Qualifying 2 was postponed until Saturday when he drove well and managed the traffic much better to finish strongly in third place. Martin got off to a good start in the first race on Friday, making up six places by the end but with too much to do to get on the podium this week. He started in third in the final race and made an excellent start to get into second. But when he went for a move on the leader he was forced out wide which saw him drop into fourth and a safety car came out before he was able to make amends. The first half of the race was then behind the safety car before he lost three places in the pit stop period through no fault of his own. However, he finished the race strongly to end in fifth.

Martin now heads to Nurburgring in third place on 55 points – just four points off second place.

Fraser Sheader, director of performance and management team ADD Motorsports, added:

“It was a frustrating weekend to not get what we felt we could have. We are looking at it as a blip in what has been a brilliant season so far. Now we need to focus on the next race and make sure we give ourselves the best chance of still being in the title hunt on the last weekend of the season."
