Croatian driver Martin Kodric will be battling for silverware on two fronts in 2017 – as he makes the step up to GT3.

The 19-year-old will turn out for Barwell Motorsport in the Blancpain Endurance Cup this season, while also taking his first steps into the Asian arena in the Blancpain GT Series with Vincenzo Sospiri Racing.

The exciting young driver put himself on the world map last season with a superb run in the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Europe that saw him collect a win (pictured below) and podiums on his way to fourth overall.

And now he’s ready to test himself again, with two new challenges that he believes he is more than ready for.

He said: “I’m delighted to be staying in the Lamborghini family and to be driving with two strong teams.

“Barwell and VSR both have amazing pedigrees, with titles and wins all over Europe and Asia, so I’m really looking forward to developing further under their expert guidance.

“I had a great season last year, but I’m ready to make the step-up to GT3 and believe I can compete for silverware once again.”

“I can’t wait to get going again!”

Kodric was one of the youngest and least experienced drivers in the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Europe series last season.

But he made his mark on the competition with some superb performances - staying in the title hunt until the final weekend of the season.

The driver will be starting his pre-season testing with VSR in February, before the first round of the inaugural Blancpain GT Series Asia campaign gets underway in Sepang, Malaysia, on April 7-9.

He will be driving in the Pro category of the competition, that features a six-round, 12-race calendar.

Kodric will also be starting an extensive pre-season testing programme with Barwell Motorsport at Monza at the beginning of March.

He will take in the official Paul Ricard two-day test, and outings at Barcelona and Silverstone, prior to the first of five rounds in the Pro-Am category at Monza on April 22-23.

Mark Lemmer, Barwell Motorsport Team Principal said: “We have a fantastic blend of speed and experience across our two cars, which I’m very happy with. The team is competing in the most competitive Pro-Am series in the world, but I am confident that we have all of the ingredients in place to mount a strong challenge!”

Vincenzo Sospiri (VSR) said: “Blancpain GT Series Asia is a new programme for VSR this season. I’m very happy to be joining one of the SRO’s championships and delighted to be able to confirm our first driver. Martin is a very young driver and this year will be his first season in GT3 racing. He tested with me in the summer and my whole team was impressed with his speed as well as his intelligent and positive approach to working with us. I’m confident that we will grow together and be up at the front this year.”

Fraser Sheader, director of performance and management team ADD Motorsports, added: “We’re delighted to be supporting Martin in this step-up to GT3, we believe he has the talent and will put the work in again, to make it a success.

“He is working with two successful teams where he will hopefully not just continue to learn and develop, but take wins and challenge at the top.

“The Asian market is definitely something he’s excited to be involved in and with the choices we have made for this year, he certainly has one eye on the future.”
